Like the popular saying “Nothing reveals the heart of Asia like its food”, this Myanmar Culinary tour will give you a chance to explore Myanmar’s famous local foods. Starting from Yangon – a mix of British colonial architecture and modern high-rises and gilded Buddhist pagodas, trip includes four main destinations of Myanmar where you will experience thousands of ancient temples and architecture in Bagan, Mandalay which is considered as the heart of tradition and handicrafts. Your trip will be beautifully completed in Inle Lake, regarded as the magical lake by the photographers where breathtaking sceneries, unique style of Intha people can be observed as the most captivating attractions for travelers. With the guidance of professional local guides, you will be able to enjoy various kinds of food more than a scheduled vacation. At the cooking class called Bamboo Delight in Inle, you will learn how to cook delicious Myanmar dishes on traditional charcoal cookers with ingredients from local market in the cozy open-plan cooking area.

Itinerary

Day 1 Yangon Arrival (by car)

Upon arrival, you will be met outside the baggage claim area by your guide who will escort you to a waiting vehicle for your transfer to downtown with a brief introduction en route. Check in to hotel.

Day 2Yangon City Tour (By Car)

Today’s plan is to enjoy breakfast at a Local restaurant in downtown. Try Myanmar’s most famous traditional breakfast, Mote Hin Gar (rice noodle with fish soup) and other Indian – influenced snacks like Nan bya , Burmese-style naan buttered or with bean, also with mutton soup, Palata Burmese-style paratha with egg or mutton and Samusa , and Burmese-style samosa with mutton and onions served with fresh mint, green chili, onions and lime. And, Chinese – influenced snack like Dim Sum.

Then, start sightseeing with Sule Pagoda in the city center. Enjoy your time seeing the colonial buildings and visit Mahabandoola Park which includes the Independence Monument, an obelisk which commemorates Burmese independence gained from the British in 1948. Next visit Chaukhtatgyi (Reclining Buddha) Pagoda a colossal reclining Buddha and Karaweik Hall a Royal barge on the Royal Lake for photo stop. Next stop is Bogyoke Market where you can buy souvenirs. Then, visit Yangon’s city center covering World famous Shwedagon Pagoda. Witness the golden dome light up sunshine at the sunset.

If time permits, proceed to Night Market on strand road to try street-side snacks, dishes, drinks and desserts. Overnight at hotel in Yangon.

Day 3Yangon - Bagan (By Flight & car)

After breakfast at hotel, proceed to airport for the flight to Bagan. Sightseeing includes visiting to the colorful Nyaung U Market, Shwezigon Pagoda and its magnificent golden stupa, Kyansittha Umin; Wet-kyi-inn Gubyaukgyi Temple, with superb mural paintings of jataka scenes and Htilominlo Temple. After the must visit to lacquer ware workshop; continue to Manuha Temple; Nanphaya, the residence of King Manuha; Ananda Temple, architectural master piece and Oak-Kyaung monastery decorated with multi colors paintings. After enjoying sunset from sunset platform, proceed to Nanda restaurant to enjoy Burmese traditional Daung Lan set (Daung Lan – Burmese traditional tray). Overnight at hotel in Bagan.

Day 4Bagan Sightseeing - Lunch at local home (By Car)

Have breakfast at hotel, then, start morning sightseeing with Lawkananda Pagoda; East and West Phet Leik with clay plaque Jataka scenes; Thatbyinnyu Temple; Shwegugyi Temple; Palace site and Tharaba Gate. At the lunch time, proceed to a local home and enjoy traditional lunch with them. Tour includes Apeyadana Temple with the paintings of Mahayana concept; Nagayon Temple; Dhamayangyi Temple, a massive Temple with finest brick work. Proceed to sunset platform to enjoy sunset. Overnight at hotel in Bagan.

Day 5Bagan - Mandalay - Amarapura - Ava - Sagaing (By Flight, car & transfer boat)

After breakfast at hotel, proceed to airport for the flight to Mandalay. Upon arrival, drive to Mahagandayon Monastery where hundreds of young Novice (Sanga) studying Buddhist Literatures with strictly obeying rule and regulation of the Monastery according to Buddha teaching. In the middle of sightseeing, visit to local teashop on the way to taste the Burmese famous salad called Laphet Thoke, pickled Tea Leaves salad. In the afternoon, cross the small river by ferry boat to make joyful excursion by horse cart at Ava (Innwa); it was one of ancient Myanmar capitals before British annexation in 1885. Next, proceed to Sagaing Hill, which is perhaps the living center of Buddhist faith in Myanmar today. Hillsides are dotted with numerous Pagodas and Monasteries. Continue to visit Khaungmudaw Pagoda. Then, transfer back to U-Bein bridge and enjoy sunset before going back to Hotel.

Day 6Mandalay - Mingun - Mandalay (By Car & boat)

Have breakfast at hotel. Depart Mandalay on a private boat along the Ayeyarwaddy River to visit Mingun, a village on the west bank of the river. Visit to Settawya Pagoda, Mingun Pahtotawgyi, and the world-renowned ringing Mingun Bell and Myatheintan Pagoda.

In the afternoon, visit to Mahamuni Pagoda, Kyauktawgyi Pagoda a large Buddha image carved out of a single block of marble, Shwenandaw Monastery (Golden Palace) noted for its exquisite wood carving, Kuthodaw Pagoda known as the world’s Biggest Book for its stone slabs of Buddhist scriptures and Mandalay Palace. In the late afternoon, proceed to airport for the flight back to Yangon. Overnight at hotel in Yangon.

Day 7Mandalay - Heho - Pindaya (By Flight & car)

After breakfast at hotel, proceed to airport for the flight to Heho. Then, drive to Pindaya, through picturesque scenery. Visit Pindaya caves, Pindaya lakes; home base paper making and umbrella making industry. Overnight at hotel in Pindaya.

Day 8Pindaya - Inle Lake (By Car & boat)

After breakfast at hotel, transfer to Nyaung Shwe to start scenic boat sightseeing to Indein Pagoda is located near the Indein creek; it is narrow and has many twists and turns. Paddy fields around the creek receive water from the creek. Here our beat start venturing into a small canal and pass through the beautiful scenery on the way to Pa O Hill tribe village. After visiting the local market, we enjoy walk to the very impressive ruins containing hundred ancient pagodas, some of which are hidden in the lush vegetation and overnight at hotel in Inle.

Day 9Indein - Bamboo Delight (By boat)

Today’s special activity is joining the cooking class called Bamboo Delight.

Proceed to Nyaung Shwe market to buy the ingredients and enjoy your time cooking traditional food along with the guidance of the chef, local staffs and new friends. After enjoying lunch at Bamboo delight, start full day Inle lake sightseeing by boat starting visit to Phaung Daw Oo Pagoda, Floating Gardens, Unique Leg-rowers, Traditional Fishing Method, Silk Weaving, Stilt House Villages on the lake and Nge Pe Chaung Monastery. Overnight at hotel in Inle.

Our cooking school has been hosting food-loving visitors since March 2013, when we first opened our doors to visitors from all over the world. In our cozy open-plan cooking area you will learn how to cook delicious Myanmar dishes on traditional charcoal cookers with ingredients from our local market. You’ll be able to take your pick from a variety of classic recipes that accommodate all kinds of different individual tastes. Love spicy food? Great, we’ve got loads of chili! Don’t eat meat? No problem, we love vegetables too! No matter the dish, our cooking is always based on an old Myanmar saying: Food is medicine, medicine is food. We believe that the most delicious dishes are born out of quality ingredients and we hope you will taste them with us.
Bamboo Delight is currently supporting about 130 students from different villages and they are opening library. So, donors and volunteers to spend a bit amount of time with children are warmly welcome.

Day 10Inle - Heho - Yangon (By Flight, transfer boat & car)
